Remember that it is very important to distinguish between an installation at 3 inch intervals and one at 4 inch intervals. For example, for a room with a surface area of 50 square feet, but of which only 28 square feet will be covered with heated cable, it would be preferable to install the cable at 3 inch intervals in order to provide enough heat for a room 50 square feet in size. However, if there is another main source of heat, then installing the cable at 4 inch intervals can also be considered.

How to successfully complete your quote

Number of sq-ft to cover

In order to decrease mistakes, a precise measure of the surface must be provided. Moreover, the surface measure must represent the square-feet that are to be covered by the heating system and not the measure of the entire room surface. In the calculation of the surface to be covered, Protherm has planned the exceeding area covered by the cable, it is thus no longer necessary to multiply the surface by 95% as suggested with the previous generation of cables.

Moreover a buffer zone must be planned. It is a space that does not necessitate heating but that can be covered by excess cable if necessary (a closet for instance).

Choice of voltage

Once the length of the cable has been chosen, the voltage of the cable, either 120 or 240 volt, needs to be determined. The availability within the electric box determines the choice of voltage. The customer needs this information, a misinformation can lead to elevated costs.

Cable spacing

Before proceeding to the installation, a last component needs to be determined: the spacing between the cables, PROTHERM offers two types of spacing, either 3 or 4 inches. The advantages of using a
3” cable are:
- 12 watt per square-foot power
- The desired temperature will be obtained more rapidly

Choosing the right kit

Once all of these elements are combined, the selection of the appropriate kit for the customer can be chosen with the help of the table below or use our calculator.
