How to Use Thin-Set Mortar for Ceramic Tile and Stone
Step 1
In
a clean container, add the mortar to the water, mix slowly to a
homogeneous and smooth consistency.
.Step 2
Let
sit for 10 minutes and remix. Do not add additional water or powder.
Refer to the instructions on the bag for water requirements.
.Step 3
Use
recommended notched trowel with enough depth (1/4" X 3/8")
as to ensure sufficient transferring to cover the entire back of
the tile.
Using the flat edge of the trowel, apply a thin coat of mortar,
then using a notched trowel, immediately add another thin coat of
mortar.
Do not spread more mortar than what can be covered within 20 minutes.
All trowel patters should be square-notched and not V
or rounded types.
.Step 4
Place
tile firmly into position in a slight twisting motion before skinning
occurs. Immediately compress the tile in the mortar.
Make all alignments and adjustments.
Step 5
Promptly
clean tools with water while material is fresh.
Let cure at least 24 hours before grouting.
For grouting, use POLY 600 unsanded grout, POLY 500 sanded grout
or Poly 700 100% Epoxy, Stain Resistant Grout.
