How to use grout for ceramic tile and stone installation
Step 1
In a clean bucket, gradually add the powder to the water in order to optimise the chemical reaction.
Slowly mix until the mixture has a consistency of a homogeneous sticky paste. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes and mix it once more.
Do not add more water. The water ratios to use are different for a sanded or a unsanded grout. Refer to the instructions indicated on the bag of grout.
Step 2
Using a rubber float, penetrate the grout into the joints by using a 45° angle to completely fill them.
Float extremities may be used for limited areas.
Step 3
Remove excess grout with your float using a 90° angle to the floor and a 45° angle for the joints.
This technique will allow you to remove as much as grout possible and will ease your next cleaning step.
Step 4
Before cleaning your tiles, ensure the grout is firmly inside the joints.
A 10 minutes waiting period is then required and very important. It allows the grout to dry enough in order to hold the pigmentation within the cement.
If this 10 minutes period is not respected, the colour of the grout may be affected.
Using a humid high density sponge, clean off the remaining grout from the surface of the tile in a transversal way. Rince and wring out frequently. Avoid using too much water.
The grout is easy to remove from your tiles so you don't need to clean your grout joints with excessive strenght. The way you clean your tiles is very important. You may notice different shades in colour if you clean one area 5 times and another one only twice so get your work done uniformly.
Step 5
Wait at least 3 hours before removing haze from tile surface with a clean dry towel.
Avoid washing your floor within the first 72 hours.
This period will provide a better bond between the grout and the pigments leading to a better colour.
An excessive cleaning of your floor within the first 72 hours may lighter your joints colour.
Step 6
If grout residues still remain after your installation, use the PROFIX PX-1000 cleaner.
It is recommended to seal your joints 10 days after grouting. The PROFIX PX-100 or Scellix 18% are recommended.
